If you want the filter cake to release easily and stick less to the filter cloth, it’s often a good idea to use inorganic conditioning for hydrophilic organic sludge.
Usually, you only need to add lime when filtering hydrophilic inorganic sludge.
Inorganic sludge is hydrophobic and dense. It’s perfect for processing with a filter press, and you don’t need to condition it before dewatering.
The filter press can deal with oily sludge, even the kind with light oils. But if there’s grease, it can slow down the filter press. So, you have to clean the filter cloths regularly to remove the grease.

Closing the Press: First, use the hydraulic system to close the filter press. Press the filter plates tightly together to create a sealed chamber.
Feeding Sludge: Then, pump sludge into the press through the central feed point. As the sludge fills the spaces between the filter plates, the pressure starts to rise.
Filtration Process: With the applied pressure, the liquid (filtrate) passes through the filter cloth, leaving the solids (cake) behind. Collect the filtrate in troughs and drain it away.
Cake Formation: As the filtration goes on, a layer of solid material forms on the filter cloth. The cake gets thicker until it fills the entire chamber.
Drying Phase: After filtering, keep the pressure on or increase it a bit to dry the cake more and remove extra moisture.
Opening the Press: Once filtering and drying are done, use the hydraulic system to release the pressure and open the filter press.
Cake Discharge: Separate the filter plates, then remove the cake either by hand or automatically. Some models have an automatic cake removal feature for this step.
